An Alternative Way of Looking at Life
This is the way my thinking is evolving and has been for a while now.
We can look at life as a whole – an over arching story – our past, our present and our future.
For me, my past aint that good as a whole.
Lotta mistakes, a few hurts, and episodes of poor mental health.
I don’t want this story to continue this way.
Most people, including the past versions of me, don’t live with the awareness that life can be different. They might intellectually know it, and have heard of people who have changed their lives (AKA their stories), but…
… they don’t believe it in their hearts.
Legitimising their belief system with thoughts like,
“You don’t know what has happened to me?”
“It’s okay for them they’re lucky/clever/smart/funny/good looking etc.”
They don’t try and change.
Or they try to change the outer, but don’t transform the inner. A post for another day, yet feel free to meditate over the difference.
So back to what I shared at the top.
One view of life is that it’s all one story and it all melts together as one. The saying, “Same shit, different day” comes to mind. You choose your path and that’s it your life is set, no T junctions, no roundabouts, just one road to go down forever, until the day you die.
And it’s not about physically, but spiritually, emotionally, mentally.
We then see life in different chunks of time…
It’s a new year, people make resolutions and, at least for a few weeks decide life is gonna be different.
Life is split up into months, weeks and days.
Now, this is where it gets interesting and powerful.
We can look at each day as a new opportunity…
Who do I want to be today?
What habits do I want to build today?
How do I want to show up in the world today?
This is good stuff.
Now for the great stuff, and I’m not saying I’m the master, it’s stuff that I’m thinking through.
Life is split up into moments – each present moment…
we have the same options.
Who do I want to be?
What do I want to do?
How do I want to show up in the world?
How do I want to respond?
What is my truth?
We now have millions of opportunities to tell a different story. To make a fresh start. To change our life.
WITH EACH PRESENT MOMENT.
Life isn’t “Same shit, different day” unless we choose to own that belief.
Life is now a smorgasbord of opportunities.
And an alternative way of seeing life.
